The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, or JGSDF (in some cases referred to as simply the GSDF), is the major branch of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, accountable for land-based armed forces operations, and is the de facto military of Japan. Developed on July 1, 1954, it is the biggest of the 3 solutions of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

New army standards, introduced in December 2010, guide the Self-Defense Forces far from their Cold War focus on the Soviet Union to a brand-new concentrate on China, specifically in respect of the dispute over the Senkaku Islands. The JGSDF is chiefly entrusted with preserving internal security in Japan.

The Force runs under the command of the principal of the ground personnel, based in the city of Ichigaya, Shinjuku, Tokyo. The JGSDF numbered around 150,000 soldiers in 2008.
