Mollie Tibbetts Dead, Illegal Alien Charged With Murder. Social Justice?
Law enforcement officers announced this week that the body of 20-year old missing college student Mollie Tibbetts was found in an Iowa cornfield, covered with corn stalks.
Illegal alien Christian Bahena-Rivera, a 24-year-old from Mexico, has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.
Senator Tom Cotton says she “could still be alive.”
And an angel mom is asking: “How many more” before we secure our borders?
Vice President Pence also weighs in.
Law enforcement announced Tuesday that “Tibbetts’ body was found in a cornfield in her rural hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa after she was last seen jogging on July 18.” Her body had been covered with corn stalks.
Rivera, the officials say, admitted to confronting and chasing her down.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) says, “Mollie should still be alive if the United States immigration laws were ‘seriously’ enforced.”
Cotton tweeted, “Prayers for Tibbetts’ family & all who knew & loved Mollie. Lots of questions—where did this illegal alien work? What was his work status—but one thing sure: Mollie would be alive if our government had taken immigration enforcement seriously years ago.”
Authorities say Rivera had been living in the area for the past 4 to 7 years.
Mollie’s father had said earlier that Brooklyn is a small city and “you can’t do anything there without someone seeing it”—“somebody knows something.”
Police said tips and video surveillance helped in the investigation.
Brooklyn is indeed a small city—about 1,400 people. Mollie’s boyfriend said he thought Mollie often failed to lock her doors—“It’s Brooklyn. You don’t lock your doors.”
“Now,” he says “we lock our doors every night.”
Vice President Pence says “he’s heartbroken” about Tibbett’s death, and called the college student an “amazing young woman.”
The vice president also tweeted that “justice will be served” against the murder suspect—“We will never forget Mollie Tibbetts,” he added.
It is heartbreaking, and deeply troubling.
Angel Mom Sabine Durden is asking “how many more” Americans have to die at the hands of illegal aliens before the United States border is secured?
She said, “How many more will it take for all of America to wake up and get behind [President Trump] to secure our borders and clean up our country?”
Durden lost her son Dominic when he was murdered by an illegal alien.
Angel Mom Mary Ann Mendoza, whose 32-year-old police officer son, Brandon Mendoza, was killed by a drunk illegal alien who was driving the wrong way down a highway in Mesa, AZ.
She tweeted, “What’s it going to take for our politicians to care about Americans safety??? How many more dead bodies of Americans do they need?!?”
The secular Left’s answer.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was asked about the Mollie Tibbetts’ tragedy yesterday on CNN’s ” New Day ” program. She gave a very old, tired response. She changed the subject.
She said, “I’m so sorry for the family here, and I know this is hard not only for the family but for the people in her community, the people throughout Iowa, but one of the things we have to remember is we need an immigration system that is effective, that focuses on where the real problems are.”
When it’s your child, or one whom you know in the community, or even one whom you hear about, it’s real, Elizabeth.
And the basis of any “effective” immigration system she and her brothers and sisters on the Left would consider would essentially be an “open borders” system.
Unfortunately, the so-called religious Left has bought into the same lie.
If you visit the Christian Left website , you are quickly introduced to the sum of their beliefs:
You’re in the right place! Conservative “Christians” have turned their back on one of the central tenets of the Bible. The tenet that Jesus said was “The sum of the Law and all the prophets,” to Love God and Love your neighbor as you do yourself! And who is our neighbor? Jesus taught us it was a stranger … A stranger, of a foreign belief system, who stopped to help another stranger beat up and left for dead on the roadside while religious types passed him by! The Bible is full of instruction that this teaching isn’t “just for individuals.” It’s a universal teaching. It applies to individuals, governments, and businesses. Welcome home. You have found your tribe. Conservative “Christians” are wrong, and you’ve been right about Jesus all along!
From this, they build a false doctrine that does not square with Scripture in relation to same-sex relations, marriage, abortion, heaven, hell, the coming of the Lord, the Great Commission, redemption, personal salvation…and borders, and national sovereignty of nations.
The concept of borders and national sovereignty is a biblical model.
My friend Bryan Fischer , with American Family Association, has written a great deal on this subject.
This is an overview. I encourage you to read his entire article.
What we learn from the Bible is that borders are God’s idea, and that such borders are to be respected. They are not to be crossed without permission. The Scriptures make it clear that national sovereignty, including clearly defined borders, is God’s idea. In Acts 17:26, we read, “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place. Two things, we are told, are under God’s sovereign control: how long a nation lasts, and where its borders are. The verb translated “having determined” is the Greek verb “horizo,” from which we get the word “horizon.” It means “to mark out, to define.” So God has marked out and defined the borders of each country. Our southern border is there by God’s design. To disregard it, to treat it as if were not there, to regard it as something not worth respecting and defending, is an insult to the God who put it there for our benefit. The bulk of the second half of Joshua is a record of the promised land being divided up among the 12 tribes. What is striking is how thorough and detailed the description of each tribal boundary is. In Joshua 15 the word “boundary” is found no less than 15 times in describing the perimeter of Judah. Even regarding private property, curses were pronounced on anyone who moved a boundary marker, a stone which delineated the perimeter of privately owned land. Borders, boundaries and property lines clearly matter to God. That such national boundaries are to be respected is made plain by no less a personage than Moses himself. In a largely forgotten passage, Numbers 20:14-21, we read that Moses sought permission from the king of Edom to cross his border and pass through his land. When permission was refused, Moses didn’t force his way in; he respected the king’s decision and went around Edom to the East. Moses couched his original request this way: “Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, or drink water from a well…we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territory.” The king’s response? “You shall not pass through.” Moses tries a second time to secure an entrance visa. “We will go up by the highway, and if we drink of your water, I and my livestock, then I will pay for it. Let me only pass through on foot, nothing more.” The king of Edom was utterly impervious to this plea for so much as a tourist visa. “You shall not pass through.” How did Moses react to this denial of permission to immigrate into and through the sovereign territory of another nation? Did he barge ahead anyway? Try to sneak in under cover of darkness? Did he launch a military strike to secure passage? Nope. “Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory, so Israel turned away from him.” The lesson? Each nation’s sovereignty is marked by its boundary, and each nation has the moral right to decide who will be given permission to enter its sovereign territory. Moses recognized this, and so should we. The only exception is under circumstances of a just war.
Bottom line: borders are biblical, and are there by God’s sovereign design. And they are to be respected by everyone.
To the Angel Mom’s question, how long and how many American lives must be lost before we secure our borders?
It’s up to us. God has given His plan, now we must do the right thing, and do it with prayer.
Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Vigilant. Be Bold. Be Faithful. Be Prayerful.
