CONGRESSWOMAN HARRIS TO INTRODUCE "CARLIE'S LAW" IN MEMORY
OF CARLIE BRUCIA; NEWS CONFERENCE AT 11:30 A.M. TOMORROW

U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson (D-TX), Mr. Joseph Brucia, and representatives of CodeAmber.org and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children will join Rep. Harris in launching drive to pass bipartisan legislation that will help protect children from criminal recidivists

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris announces that she will introduce "Carlie's Law" tomorrow in memory of Carlie Brucia, an 11 year-old girl from Sarasota, Florida who was brutally kidnapped, raped, and murdered last month. U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson, Chair of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus and an original co-sponsor, will join Rep. Harris at a news conference to discuss this legislation. Mr. Joseph Brucia, Carlie Brucia's father, and representatives of CodeAmber.org and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children will also attend the press conference, which will occur at 11:30 in Room 2237 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Carlie's Law constitutes aggressive action to protect children from the criminal recidivists who would use society's second chances to commit acts of violence. This legislation expands the grounds for mandatory revocation of probation and supervised release in the federal court system. Carlie's law also reauthorizes the federal Amber Alert Grant Program, conditioning such funding upon a state's certification that it has made a good faith effort to notify non-custodial parents when their child becomes the victim of violence or sexual abuse.
